The 4th edition of the African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS) 2025 was held at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa in Abuja, Nigeria, from Tuesday, 15th to Thursday, 17th July 2025. Under the theme “Harnessing Local Content for Sustainable Development”, AFNIS 2025 convened diverse stakeholders from Africa and beyond, including top federal and state government officials, private sector executives, and technical experts, to engage on the transformation of Africa’s abundant natural resources and human capital for value addition and sustainable development.
AFNIS 2025 served as a dynamic platform for fostering strategic dialogue towards forging partnerships and collaboration, and advancing sustainable investments across Africa’s natural resources and energy sectors. The event highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, value addition, and innovative financing mechanisms as key drivers for economic growth and achieving sustainable development goals.
The summit opened with a welcome address by Engr. Faruk Yusuf Yabo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, who charged delegates to chart a transformative path to place Africans at the centre of their resource wealth.
In his keynote, the Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, outlined the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda and reaffirmed Nigeria’s resolve to position itself as a regional hub for value addition in critical minerals. He underscored the $800 million in mining investments attracted and commended investors such as ASBA-Wisdom International Lithium Processing Facility, acknowledging the significant gains in local content development and the emergence of lithium processing hubs that signal Nigeria’s transition from an exporter of raw minerals to a producer for the electric vehicle supply chain.
The summit featured a robust agenda of high-level sessions, including the CEO/Ministerial Roundtable, keynote addresses, country spotlights, technical masterclasses, presentations, investment showcases, and an interactive exhibition of technologies, services, and projects spanning Africa’s extractive and energy value chains. The discussions revolved around local content development, cross-border trade, mining-agriculture land use management, beneficiation of critical minerals, innovative financing, energy sector reforms, artisanal mining formalisation, and adoption of green energy technologies.
