London, United Kingdom | 10 July 2026
Financial Markets Indaba successfully hosted the Africa Infrastructure & Energy Conference (AIEC) 2026 from 9–10 July in London, bringing together senior government officials, ambassadors, development finance institutions, institutional investors, commercial banks, project developers, regulators, infrastructure specialists and global capital providers to accelerate investment into Africa’s infrastructure and energy sectors. The conference was designed as a high-impact, transaction-focused platform to connect African project sponsors with UK and European financial institutions and international investors while creating practical pathways from project development to financial close.
Held under the theme “Mobilising Private Capital for Africa’s Infrastructure & Energy,” AIEC moved beyond traditional conference discussions by combining strategic policy dialogue with investor engagement, curated project presentations, closed-door investment roundtables and pre-arranged business-to-business meetings aimed at generating tangible investment partnerships and advancing bankable projects.
A Platform Focused on Investment Execution

Unlike conventional conferences, AIEC was deliberately structured as a capital mobilisation platform. The programme combined two complementary formats over the two days: an exclusive Investor Roundtable focused on project preparation, legal structuring, bankability, blended finance and investor engagement, followed by a plenary conference featuring keynote addresses, country investment presentations, high-level panel discussions and sector-specific investment opportunities. Throughout both days, pre-arranged B2B meetings connected African project sponsors directly with institutional investors, DFIs, commercial banks, legal advisers and strategic partners, ensuring discussions were centred on investment execution rather than dialogue alone.
High-Level Participation
The conference attracted an exceptional calibre of participants representing governments, investment promotion agencies, multilateral institutions, institutional investors, commercial banks, pension-related institutions, infrastructure funds, legal firms and project sponsors from across Africa and Europe.
The programme featured keynote addresses and presentations from representatives of British International Investment (BII), the African Union Commission, Barings, the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, Fitch Ratings, UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Afreximbank, the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG), Gemcorp Capital, CBZ Holdings, the Regional Maritime Development Bank, Africa Infrastructure Development Association (AFIDA), Mutapa Investment Fund, Tanzania Investment Centre, ZESA, Granville Energy, Konexa, Africa GreenCo, Kaboni Energy and other leading organisations active in infrastructure finance and project development.
Meaningful Dialogue on Mobilising Capital
One of the conference’s defining features was its emphasis on practical solutions for mobilising long-term institutional and private capital into African infrastructure.
Panel discussions explored the investment conditions required to move projects from concept to financial close, focusing on project bankability, credit quality, blended finance, de-risking mechanisms, domestic institutional capital, pension fund participation and innovative financing structures. Rather than broad policy debates, the discussions centred on actionable strategies capable of improving investor confidence and accelerating project execution.
A second panel examined Africa’s energy transition, highlighting opportunities to accelerate renewable energy deployment, distributed power generation, regional electricity trading, commercial and industrial power solutions, public-private partnerships and integrated utility models capable of expanding access to reliable and sustainable energy while attracting long-term private investment.
Investor Roundtables and Curated B2B Meetings
A major highlight of AIEC 2026 was the successful delivery of an extensive programme of closed-door investor meetings between African project sponsors and leading investment institutions. These structured meetings created valuable opportunities to explore project financing, strategic partnerships, technical advisory support and pathways towards financial close.
Strengthening Africa–Global Investment Partnerships

Throughout the conference, speakers emphasised the importance of strengthening collaboration between governments, investors, development finance institutions, commercial banks and the private sector in addressing Africa’s infrastructure financing gap.
Discussions reinforced the need to improve project preparation, enhance legal and regulatory frameworks, strengthen governance, expand blended finance solutions, mobilise domestic institutional capital and create investment-ready project pipelines capable of attracting global capital.
The conference also highlighted London’s unique position as a global financial centre, providing African project sponsors with access to institutional investors, sophisticated financial markets, legal expertise, underwriting capacity and development finance institutions that are critical to bringing infrastructure projects to financial close.
Delivering Outcomes Beyond the Conference
AIEC 2026 was intentionally designed to produce outcomes that extend well beyond the conference itself. By facilitating structured investor engagement before, during and after the event, Financial Markets Indaba created an environment that supports continued dialogue, project refinement, transaction development and long-term investment partnerships.
The conference reinforced the importance of aligning African infrastructure opportunities with international investment standards while strengthening collaboration between project sponsors and capital providers. Through its combination of strategic discussions, investment presentations and targeted B2B engagements, AIEC demonstrated that Africa’s infrastructure ambitions can be advanced through stronger partnerships, improved project preparation and greater mobilisation of private capital.

Looking Ahead
Building on the success of the 2026 edition, Financial Markets Indaba will continue to expand AIEC as a premier international investment platform that bridges African infrastructure and energy opportunities with global capital markets. The conference will remain focused on accelerating investment, supporting project bankability, strengthening Africa–international financial collaboration and creating practical pathways for infrastructure and energy projects to progress from opportunity to execution.
